I’m remembering our beloved friend and colleague, Congressman John R. Lewis, on this fifth anniversary of his passing.
As we face our existential battle to keep the rights John devoted his life to give us, may we draw strength from his memory and find inspiration in his courage.

ICYMI: I am so grateful to Lupita Nyong’o for coming to Congress to share her fibroids story and advocate for more research, more resources, and more awareness of this debilitating disease that so many women across the nation struggle with.
May her courage inspire my colleagues across the aisle to sign on to my legislation, the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act, which would provide $150 million to the NIH to research this public health crisis and put us on the path towards ending the pain it has caused.

In observance of Fibroid Awareness Month, my colleagues and I hosted a Uterine Health Awareness press conference to advocate for the health of women nationwide. I am proud to stand with my sisters, @repshontel, @repbonnie, and @sen_alsobrooks to reintroduce a myriad of legislation to support research and preventative measures to end uterine cancer and fibroids.
And of course, a special thank you to @coachgessie, @wecanwearwhite, @fibroidfoundation, and all others who joined us today for sharing their stories and tirelessly working to bring awareness to the issues women face with fibroids!

Today, I hosted a very important roundtable discussion to bring awareness to uterine health, where I was honored to be joined by @lupitanyongo who shed light on her own experiences with the severe impacts of uterine fibroids. Our conversation was filled with tears and a myriad of emotion from women who are dealing with this disease, and I am eternally grateful that she took this moment to share her story and lend her powerful voice to the voiceless.
“As a young girl, you’re taught to deal with pain at an early age. We are taught to suffer in silence. I’m speaking out because silence serves no one.” — Lupita Nyong’o.

This #BlackWomensEqualPayDay is a reminder that the pay gap Black women face every day didn’t happen by accident – it’s the product of centuries of exploitation designed to deny Black women what they’re worth and deprive them of what they deserve.
It’s time for progress. It`s time for equal pay.
